Health issues found in boxers
Unfortunately, there are many health issues that plague our beloved boxer breed. We have experienced some problems in the past, and we LEARNED from it. We have chosen to eliminate those dogs from any breeding program by spaying and neutering any that we brought into our and placing with pet homes, or as in Thor's case he was a beloved pet.
We started out on a rough start in the boxer world and decided that we would never breed carelessly, like the breeders we bought our potential show stock and breeding stock from. Only 2 females that we purchased didn't have an issue in the beginning. Our high priced male, Thor, that we bought together with another friend suffered from demodex and severe hip dysplasia. Zoe, a female that we bought from different breeders had demodex as well. Another male that we had bought was affected by Degenerative Myelopathy, or also known as DM. We've been very fortunate that we have not had any of our boxers that have been diagnosed with cardio or elbow problems. When we first started breeding, there was no test for DM, so we did end up using our male that was affected by DM, but we had no idea until later in life. By the time we found out about him, he was already neutered because his offspring were not what we wanted coming from our breeding program. We've currently added some imports to our breeding program. Unfortunately one puppy, Lady, was sent to us with a Grade 5 heart murmur. This will kill her eventually. She will be spayed when she is old enough and stable enough health wise.
We use Animal Genetics for our genetic testing. If you purchase a puppy from us, your puppy will be normal or free by parentage of DM or ARVC. Here is a link to Animal Genetics: https://www.animalgenetics.us/Canine/Canine_Index.asp
